She looked pretty innocent as she stood
in front of the fairly large crowd that Thursday midday. She was the
best graduating student from grade six, she was so proud, so glad, so
confident and full of hope as she shared with the crowd comprising
parents, teachers and special invitees to the price giving day and send
forth ceremony for the grade six pupils in that well known and respected
private primary school.
The teachers indeed have done a great
job teaching, imparting and instilling knowledge, hope, confidence and
faith in these very young children.
Being the best graduating student and
the head girl of her set, she was consequently asked to make a speech, a
presentation about herself, her life, her hopes and ambition.
And I listened attentively as she began
to share her dreams of becoming a very successful petroleum and gas
engineer; she said she believes in this country Nigeria and is also
confident we can effectively and efficiently manage our oil and gas
resources to better the lot of the very poor and suffering majority.
She talked about the very many children
with the dream and ambition to go to school but can't afford it, the
very many children dying daily at hospitals, many children going to bed
every night without a meal, many people without clothes on their backs,
food on their tables; roofs over their heads, she talked about the
insecurity and fear of many Nigerians and she spoke about how she
believes one day she would attain that position and apprehend the level
of authority and power to bring the much needed change in Nigeria.
